Manual Arts High School journalism program has moved from print to digital media. The change happened in early October with the purchase of the school’s new journalism website the toilertimes.com

Ryon Tanara, advisor of the program and school administrators made the decision to move the school news online in order to meet the demands of the changing world of journalism. “It’s definitely a better way to get the news out more quickly,” said Tanara. “As student journalist you could produce way more.”

April Barillas, one of the editors of the news website, thinks that this is a good move for the school and the program. “Nowadays people are always on their phone or on the internet,” said Barillas. “Students will be more informed because they can use our website to check out the school news.”

Moving online will also allow students to work on coding, photojournalism, and video newscasts. Senior Indira Orozco, who serves as the photo editor, sees the potential of this new platform. “It’s more interesting than looking at a black and white piece of paper,” said Orozco.

The Toiler Times team will take their new website public next week and continue to update the stories weekly.
