Did you know Denim Day is on April 30,2025. Denim Day brings awareness on victim blaming and myths about sexual violence. Wearing denim clothing on this day shows an act of protest to sexual violence. This day is a symbolic protest against the idea that clothing, particularly jeans, implies consent. What started this was a controversial Italian court ruling in 1998 that overturned a rape conviction, stating the victim’s tight jeans implied consent and she helped her attacker remove them. In protest, women in the Italian Parliament wore jeans, this act of solidarity grew into a global movement, with people worldwide wearing jeans to raise awareness about sexual assault, support survivors, and challenging victim-blaming. Peace over violence organized the first Denim Day campaign in the US in 1999, and it has since become an annual event on the last Wednesday of April, a date choose to coincide with Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
