Schools in Central and Eastern Los Angeles Closed Due to Hazardous Air
Quality in Los Angeles, CA (Jan. 8, 2025) – Schools in the central and eastern
parts of the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) have been closed
due to hazardous air quality conditions resulting from the rapidly intensifying
Eaton fire. The affected areas include schools north of Manchester Boulevard
and Firestone Boulevard, east of 10th Avenue, west of Interstate 710, and south
of Highway 34. A full list of the impacted schools will be released shortly. This
sudden change in air quality has prompted the district to prioritize safety,
following guidance from health officials and scientists.
In addition to the school closures, all athletic activities, including games
and practices, have been canceled for the day. The six schools previously
announced as closed will remain so, while other schools in less affected areas
will adjust their schedules, with some moving to minimum day operations.
LAUSD is offering flexibility to families and staff, especially for those with chronic
health or respiratory conditions, urging them to stay home for their safety. The
district continues to monitor the situation closely and will provide further updates
as needed.Schools in Central and Eastern Los Angeles Closed Due to Hazardous Air
