Yet, students should know the Halloween holiday has its roots in the ancient Celtic festival, a pagan religious celebration to welcome the harvest at the end of summer, when people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off ghosts. Dia de los Muertos originated in Mexico and is a time for family and friends to remember their dearly departed loved one, and according to tradition, reunite with them.
